    The whole "rebirth" theme is very relatable to me, but in sort of the opposite way of the guy who left his family. I have always been into cars since I was a kid. I loved any kind of racing game, could not wait to get to the toy section of Walmart to get Hot Wheels cars. I was also into NASCAR when Dale Sr and Jeff Gordon were hot and watched Speed Racer on Cartoon Network every afternoon religiously back in the 90s. I wanted to be a race car driver when I grew up. When I became a teenager, I was really into cars especially with the car culture that was going on at the time with The Fast and the Furious and all. Pimp My Ride was watched every weekend at my house. I began working on and restoring cars with my father and brothers, and became obsessed with customizing cars. My father taught me mechanic work and my significantly older brother taught me paint and body work. We would all often go to car shows and swap meets. Me and my father built a 1968 Camaro from nothing while I built a 1976 Nova and eventually got a third gen Camaro that I drove in high school. But the thing is, with all my adult knowledge of cars, I got lost in all the technicalities and artistic aspects of cars that I lost perspective didn't see the forest for the trees on why I loved them in the first place. I took cars way TOO seriously that I became too much of an "Oil" type car guy and not enough of a "gasoline" type as mentioned in the anime. I spent more time working on cars but never really drove them which defeated the purpose and made it seem pointless. Furthermore, I was going to college. Though I still liked cars very much in my first years. I even v8 swapped my third gen Camaro and gave it an informal rat rod theme until the transmission got destroyed in my senior year. I started looking at other things to focus on, like career, dreams, make friends and connections and take a shot at finding a girlfriend or a wife. I thought the "mature" thing to do in my 20s was to feel out what else life had to offer which was afforded by a college education. To not just be a "gearhead." Though I did develop some more well-rounded interests. I began studying history and learned Japanese and planned to go to Japan to teach English. After graduation I began feeling things out, I did not go to work in what I majored in (I did NOT want to teach public school) and historians are a dime a dozen, not to mention all the political bs going on right now in regard to social studies, and I did not go to Japan. But I did develop other interests and pursued several dreams that did not pan out (and thankfully so for a few of them.) Aside from buying a 1988 Prelude that bought from craigslist to go places in, I hardly ever touched my cars that sat in a shed collecting dust. I can tell that it was bumming my dad out because that was one of the things that we bonded over. I wanted to keep that alive. Most of the people I knew in college went their separate ways, many were not really my friends in the first place. What people I did consider friends got married and started families. Into my 30s, I realized that marriage and family was not happening. during the 2020 pandemic I went through a nasty depression while working a retail job that seemed to put me into a tunnel vision into nihilism as I scrambled to get things together to see what direction my life should go in. I do not hate women, but I find a lot of what the Red Pill and MGTOW crowd have to say to ring pretty true what society has become and has helped reshape my perspective in life. In exception for a very few, the family unit in the west is an absolute joke, and I just don't get people these days, let alone the opposite sex. Most things that men found purpose in seem to be dead these days. Careers seem like a fancy word for corporate slavery and being that the mercy of bearurcrats. Military service was out of the question because I was not signing part of my life away, putting myself through the wringer and risking getting killed or maimed for something pointless for a country of people that could care less. But still I longed for a thrill. Something that I could actually prove myself at. Something to make me feel alive. I did not want to become a NEET, a a doomer, or black piller, I did not just want to just exist and do nothing. I then began revisiting my childhood dream of being a race car driver and so followed my reignited interest in cars with a whole new perspective. I began getting out some my old hot wheels cars and even buying nos versions of them still in the box off of eBay, and along with getting vintage racing stuff from the 70s, 80s, and 90s and hanging them on my walls and shop. I started playing many of my favorite racing games and even bought some of the arcade racing titles that I used to play as a kid. I even started rewatching old Speed Racer episodes and even watched the original Japanese Mach GoGoGo, which despite its campiness, is still pretty badass with the 1960s racing stuff. All to rediscover what it was deep that sparked my love for cars before becoming an "adult." I also discovered other car cultures that resonated with me such as the Shakotan and Bosozoko culture of Japan that came from former WWll fighter pilots getting bored and building cars and motorcycles and communities. Being from the rural South, I started relating to shows like the Dukes of Hazzard in a similar and new way. I also found out that cruising at night in vintage Japanese sports cars listening to vaporwave to was a thing and wasn't just something weird that only I did (great minds.) And how I did not see Pixar's "Cars" or Cannonball Run until my 30s is beyond me. Burt Reynolds' story in that movie about his dad dying before his big retirement from the coal mines and how from that he decided that he was "gonna go for it" pretty much summed up my feelings in a nutshell. Maybe it was divine intervention, but along with stumbling across Wangan Midnight, there have been a lot of other timely great racing and car related stuff that have been popping up just recently, such as the Ford vs Ferrari movie and the Lamborghini movie. I began going to the local speedway and revisited the local drag strip after a decade. I went to a rally event, a vintage race, and a found out about Gridlife festivals (Awesome experience.) Unfortunately, my father's shop that we worked on so many cars in burned to the ground last summer. Though it was pretty devastating, we have spent the greater part of the last year rebuilding a bigger and even better shop to work in its place. Now my father is retirement age, and I think he is happy that I am focusing on cars again with him. Been wrenching a little on my old Prelude, and my dad just pulled his 1966 Chevelle that he bought in high school and dated my mom in into the other bay to get another restoration. We have been talking about the things that we can do to get it running and looking good and maybe taking some trips in it. Been thinking of dragging my third gen Camaro in and building a road racer out of it and hitting the road and racetrack with it. I also started working with my older brother in restoring classic cars at his shop on the weekends and have been eyeing a job that specializes cars near me. I'm 36 now, and things are going well in so many ways with this "rebirth" and new perspectives. and I cannot wait to get out on the road again. Sorry for the long essay, but this is why I drive.

    Alright, you had me the moment you said "If you aren't as stubborn as a brick wall, this game probably isn't for you." I'm so much the guy who slams his head against a wall over and over again, fighting the same Soulsboss hours on end, putting weird and horrible restrictions on myself to make a game more fun to struggle against... and I know 100 % that's the only reason I keep loving Yugioh despite all my frustrations.

    (1) Says modern gaming is better. (2) Then explain how older games were actually better in almost every way. (3) Correctly explains that oversight, capitalist-centric deadlines, and other factors were in play even with older games (though this had little if any negative impact on many of these old games, and are wholly different and unrelated to the MTX/loot box and corrupt game design systems of modern games (circa 2012), which he failed to mention). (4) Goes on a very typical detour, wholly unrelated to the issue at hand, to virtue-signal about devs not getting paid enough according to Viseak (where said devs used their free will in a free market system to accept their position and pay, and where very few of them complained; instead, people are complaining on their behalf). (Note: to the degree that we now have many modern devs crying about not getting paid enough or having to work 4 hours a day or whatever, these are the devs making poorly made games or corrupt and lazy MTX machines, like Guardians of the Galaxy, Borderlands 3, Saints Row 4, Hades 2, Silent Evil 2 (2024), Fortnite, God of War: Ragnarok, Destiny, Overwatch, Fallout 76, Diablo 4, Warframe, Call of Duty: WWII, RuneScape 3, and don't innately deserve, and cannot legally or morally demand, any of my money or respect as a player. Even Crash Bandicoot 4 to some degrees has major modern dev issues with horrible game design choices and overall bad writing, despite being a good modern game and non-MTX and single-player, which is very rare for the 2020s. The list is almost endless, though the controls or raw gameplay might be good. That's the benefits of advanced technology. True 3D games were only invented in the mid-1990s, after all. It's matured now, but overall game dev and storytelling has become soul-crushing. And this does matter, more so, when a game is filled with painful dialogue and voice acting.) (5) Fails to explain or understand the innate qualities of good game design that actually made many older games objectively better than modern games. (6) Doesn't pay nearly enough attention to the modern state of gaming, and how most so-called 'good games' are actually defined through player base, profits, and addiction on free-to-play MMOs, MMORPGs, and otherwise live service games. (7) Terribly skips over a key element: most old games had their issues or bad moments or failures in design, weird gameplay loops, pacing issues, and more (especially, with early 3D games), and again focuses too heavily on the possible negatives at the level of business and workers. (Having said this, I still believe something like Halo 2 is far better than most modern games, when you take everything into account. An imperfect game is far better than a gambling machine or completely broken live service system that never ends.) (8) Again, overly focuses on the business elements, and incorrectly places total blame onto the corps and bosses, as opposed to (a) the devs themselves; and (b) the Gen Z players demanding such systems (e.g. cosmetics, Skins, MTX, loot boxes, season passes, login rewards, weekly challenges, the free-to-play model, pay-to-skip features). (9) Mentions the HANDFUL of great modern games, such as Elden Ring, in defence of modern gaming; namely, in relation to all of traditional or retro gaming. Yet everybody knows Elden Ring is not actually an example of 'modern gaming'. It's built more like a game from 2010 than 2015 or 2020 or otherwise. It focuses on non-MTX, single-player play, a fairly tight story, non-live service, and a solid core gameplay loop. This was all within the first 2 minutes, telling me you are very biased and didn't do nearly enough research. That's before we even get onto the title of the video, which itself is claiming that older racing games were actually better, despite your general feeling that modern games as such are better. You state outright in the description that modern racing games don't have souls. It does not matter how good modern gaming is, if your overall feeling is it lacks a soul, then it's clearly much worse. Gaming had a soul in the 1970s, the 1980s, the 1990s, and the 2000s (almost universally). This is better understood as 'great games built with the benefits of modernity' or 'traditional-style games in the modern landscape'. They are not typical examples of 'modern games', like Fortnite or the latest Call of Duty or current CS:GO or CandyCrush or RuneScape 3 or current World of Warcraft or NBA 2K18 or Black Desert Online or Warframe or Overwatch. These are modern games, these are corrupted by such systems and design elements, these are built with very different philosophies in mind, and these are what dominate the gaming market and investment trends since the mid-2010s, mostly with Gen Z gamers and the Chinese market (lots of young rich Chinese gamers, according to data and reports since 2019). I read a report that said 30% of Steam games are driven by loot boxes and 50% of mobile games. Many more are driven by MTX more broadly. Most AAA games are, too. The most popular games are driven by loot boxes and endless cycle systems, as with live service games. I just saw a report that said 66 of games had 80% of playtime in 2023, and many of them were older live service games driven by loot boxes and MTX, such as GTA V/Online and Fortnite. If we check games with the most players, they are also actual modern games, such as Warframe, RuneScape, World of Warcraft, CS:GO, and Call of Duty. Another report claimed that about 80% of video game profits are from MTX, and future investment (since 2019) is almost completely in VR, Cloud gaming, and MTX systems. Traditional gaming is dead. Dedicated systems and handhelds are dead. Consoles are dying (other than Nintendo and PlayStation, and even they are way down once you control for population sizes). Even standardised mobile and PC have dipped in investment for the first time in 20 years. This will become painfully clear around 2027 with the PS6 and new Xbox system, along with future mobile and PC gaming (both in the West and Asia). Games are only going to get worse, and we're going to have far fewer traditional AA and AAA games, and pretty much zero normative live service games. Most gamers will still be on a handful of modern games. 12,000 games were published in 2023 and maybe 200 AAA and likewise games, correct? Billions of extra humans on the planet compared with the year 2000, and far more global access and rapid stock for the units and games, yet far fewer sales outside of mobile and PC. Far fewer dedicated or even part-time gamers if we remove live service and MTX addicts. It's actually clearly dying. Even if we just look at Steam, there are a handful of top games, and most of them are live service MTX machines. So many of these games are modern systems, though many are traditional and quite good -- they are ignored by the players. Many Steam players are actually playing pre-2012/old games, not modern games. The best-selling games of the last 12 years on non-Nintendo consoles have been Halo, Call of Duty, Uncharted, God of War, Battlegrounds, Skyrim, GT, GTA V, Assassin's Creed, Arkham, Minecraft, and some others. For PC, it's World of Warcraft, RuneScape, Minecraft, CS:GO, League of Legends, Battlegrounds, Fortnite, Overwatch, and more. More recently, we've seen popular games across platforms, including Elden Ring and Hogwarts Legacy and Cyberpunk 2077. Only some of those are actually anti-MTX and traditionalist, and it's debatable if all of these are even better than older games, or older versions of their series. But, how many Elden Rings have been published since 2012? Like 10 or 15 out of 100,000 mainline games, most of those 10 or 15 coming from Nintendo and Naughty Dog? That's not good. That's about 1 a year. Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy just sold 20 million copies and is a great example of a modern game, but that did come out back in 2017 and was simply a direct remake of already great games from Naughty Dog back in the 1990s. Let's try this. How many games exist that: (1) Were published since 2012; (2) Don't heavily feature MTX; (3) Don't include loot boxes or otherwise; (4) Don't feature political/DEI Gen Z/Gen Y writing and game dev; (5) Don't feature horrible bugs and issues not fixed for 6+ months; (6) Are single-player (or are entirely driven by the single-player mode); (7) Sold at least 1 million copies (i.e. very popular); (8) Were not free-to-play/download (i.e. actually cost money to buy and play); (9) Were not merely direct remakes or remasters of old, great games; (10) Were not little mobile games (meaning, they were actually fully formed games). That's how many great modern games exist, that are not indies or AA games that nobody even plays. I can assure you, it includes Elden Ring and not many others. It includes next to zero AAA games, and it includes about 2 small indie games. So, most of the games are AA games or major indie games. Many of them are non-direct remakes or sequels, not original IP, which is fine -- but you can see how it's simply building on something already great that pre-dates 2012, and only sells so well due to an established fan base.

    Elden Ring = boring empty version of Dark Souls God of War 2018 = boring last of us version of the original God of War Cyberpunk 2077 = boring and ugly cheap rip off of GTA with an uglier 80s texture mod with 10.000 bugs Ghost of Tsushima = boring and ugly and bland and clunky and awkward and BORING Final Fantasy XVI = boring and bland and cheap and BORING Baldurs Gate 3 = BORING with overhyped characters and pseudo humor.. but still BORING Armored Core VI = repetitive and boring and uninspiring and bland and BORING DOOM ETERNAL (and the previous DOOM) = BORING AND REPETITIVE MINDLESS KRAP! YAKUZA = awkward, cheap, parody-almost, clucky, not funny, not engaging, not interesting, go play Sleeping Dogs instead! "modern games" that I legit enjoy playing are 1. Chorus = forsa is 100% pure fun and the combat gameplay is flawless 2. Titanfall 2 = if COD games could write single player campaigns AND gameplay mechanics as good as this.. I would be playing COD every day 3. WITCHFIRE = first version ever released is the best one. every single update the devs made is for the worse. you can find the earliest version on DODI-REPACK. 4. Deep Rock Galactic Survivor = also early access and its one of the most simplest yet most addicting games ever.. literally just play with the arrow keys. 5. Mad Max = the most underrated game ever made imho.. and again.. imho WAY better than the movies. 6. The Surge 1 and 2 = imho the best NON-FROMSOFT souls games ever made. I prefer 1 more than 2 but I love them both~ besides these I just play Demons on PS3 EMU, DS1 PTD with 60fps fix (F the remaster), DS2 and DS2 Scholar(when im in the mood for BDSM), DS3(I really hate the bloodborne colors tho). and once in a while I install Sekiro to remind myself that just because I love japanese stuff doesn't mean I'm willing to play a game that is literally 99% "raise your sword infront of your face to block attacks" and uninstall it 30 minutes later. again.. ELDEN RING IS BORING!!!!

    Two things modern racing games are lacking. Meaningful progression and identity/style. And ig handling, but occasionally they do that right but still miss the other two. Also I know you said you don't like cops in racing games, but in Most Wanted 2005, they were a HIGHLIGHT of the experience for me. They were intelligent, hyper aggressive, but the game gave you pursuit breakers and hiding spots, and rewarded your knowledge of the map. And the cops have over 12,000 unique voice lines on the radio chatter to help you plan ahead. The pursuits weren't a random feature either, you needed to gain enough notoriety with the cops to challenge the next boss. I just thought in that game they were so well implemented, and wanted to know if you've played that game and how you felt about the cops there in comparison to the quite bland cops in modern titles.

I watched enough yugitube to understand how the game works and, altho it was hard, after a while I got better at the game. I don't think anything beats that feeling of watching your opponent build an opposing board, only to slowly break it apart during your turn and land the killing blow that same turn. My pet deck is Fluffal, I have no right doing that to these meta decks. And every time there's a new meta deck, I try to get a win like that. They may have better win ratios against me, and I know Fluffal won't be playable forever, but that only made my few wins mean so much more to me. It's just so rewarding to stick with a game, stick with a deck, and somehow make it work against seemingly unsurmountable odds. I do want to try other card games, but I don't think any other card game would give me that feeling the same way modern Yu-Gi-Oh does.

    honestly, as someone who enjoys playing and making all kinds of games, yugioh is in a terrible and sad state. when 2 players make optimal decisions and only one of them has fun the game is simply not fun. the game generated no fun, one player took it from the other. if they have to play unoptimally to have fun they are effectively fixing the game's design problems for themselves, AKA the game as designed by the developers is not fun. games aren't supposed to work like this. in a well made game you just play and everyone involved has fun, and as you get better at it you only get more fun. and that's before all the konami nonsense.

That's what yugioh is all about, not locking out your opponent turn one and calling it a day. I hate those 10 min. "competitive" videos where no one can do anything against their opponent's boards and it simply comes down to rock, paper, scissors. Fuck floodgates, fuck FTKs, fuck combo deck and fuck just draw the out™ endboards, they're all against the spirit of playing a game. I find it funny that people always seem to think they have to come down on one side of the old vs new yugioh debate. I appreciate both for different reasons - modern lets you do some truly ludicrous stuff and games can be really close and interactive so long as you're not playing against whatever is tier 0 that format, whereas older formats allow you to play much more interesting decks thanks to the lower power level, and the games are much more back and forth. Both have their merits, and while I probably slightly prefer formats like Edison, modern has my favourite deck of all-time, Vanquish Soul, and when you're playing against similar power level decks it can provide the most intense games ever. They're different but both great.

Some do and they still don’t like it and that’s cool, but there’s always this weird stance of, game too fast, too complicated, extra deck bad, fuck reading and learning all that etc etc, which is such a damn shame Cause like you said, some of the best and most interesting decks to play in this game are more modern ones

      @diggysdungeon 2 дня назад

      @@Viseak Yeah I feel you on that. I would play devil's advocate by just saying that yes, a lot of doors are opened by the modern game and its near infinite possibilities, but an equal number of doors are closed to archetypes, playstyles and even card types that are now just nowhere near fast or powerful enough for the modern game. The 2010 event on Master Duel opened my eyes to how much more fun the game is when traps are viable (but not just broken floodgates) and how much less binary your choices are when you have to account for a variety of possibilities in the backrow. Sure, it's harder to play against Snake Eyes than most Edison decks, but you always know what that deck has in terms of interaction with you and what does and doesn't hurt it. I think it'd be nice if new cards were a bit more flexible in the ways they can be played instead of just being 1 card combos, extenders or handtraps, but the power level has gotten so high that I struggle to see this approach being adopted without a full scale change of banlist philosophy.

    It's a shame that I didn't find this video back in the day and I'm very glad that someone still remembers this spectacular series. Regarding the black box theory, there is something I want to add, unlike in the US in my region the series was broadcast without censorship, and in one episode Hiltz himself comments that it is possible for an organoid to remain permanently fused with a Zoid. Later in another episode, the topic is returned to where it is explained that if the Zoid genome was taken and altered with the force of an organoid, a completely new Zoid could be born from simply the Zoid Core, without the need to have a shell or evolution process. Therefore to me, the Berserker Fury and Liger Zero were probably Zoids Core from a genosaurer and liger (not necessarily Van's) which were modified by Seke and Shadow creating them in the process. And something that partially supports my hypothesis is that in the video game saga of both GBA and DS (which I played in Japanese) to create both Liger Zero and Berserker Fury you need to have the Zoid Core of Genosaurer and the Shield Liger (if I remember correctly) and this happened in all versions of the RPG Games Saga. Bonus info: in that same saga of RPG games, it is confirmed that Zoids genesis is the most distant future of the planet Zi and also, does a Zoidian queen from the past appear? which is identical to Fiona and her Zoids are the Gill Dragon and Gill Valer, it is a strange game but basically it teaches you the entire Timeline of the planet Zi and that the jump between CC/GF and ZNC is about 150 to 200 years.
